The harbor picture above is one I took of my very favorite place … Silver Lake Harbor, Ocracoke Island, NC. This is a tiny island on the southern end of the NC Outer Banks. I absolutely love Ocracoke for its quaint charm. It’s remote (2.5 hr ferry from coast) and there’s not one Starbucks, Walmart or anything of that ilk. It’s lovely, uncommercial and unspoiled – like going back in time. (It was named #1 beach in the United States last year by “Dr. Beach”. We’re hoping it remains unspoiled!) No place beckons me the way that Ocracoke does! A week in Ocracoke in October is like a drink of cool water in the desert!
PS. If you look verrrrry closely, squint your eyes, and hold your tongue just right you’ll see there’s a pelican that had just landed on the short piling in the middle when I took the pic! And at the top of the piling to the right is a fake owl that is supposed to keep the pelicans away!
Hey, I like the photo, and I recognized it. Congratulations of starting a new blog! I went to Ocracoke for a week last October, and wrote nine blog installments about it (those are two of them that your blog automatically linked to). I look forward to reading more of your postings.
