The Lady of Shalott

Today I came across a print of a painting that I hadn’t seen in years.  It was a plate in an artbook.  The painting once again mesmerized me as it had years ago.  The painting is “The Lady of Shalott” (1888) by John William Waterhouse and  is in the Tate Gallery in London.  This is a truly fantastic Pre-Raphaelite painting, at once mystical and realistic.  I ordered a poster of the work so that I can enjoy it often.

It is based on a Tennyson ballad  (poem) of the same name.  In process of looking into the story and the ballad.  I found a wonderful musical rendition.  Both the artwork and the music clip are here.  I hope others enjoy both as I do.
