About this photo

This photo is Silver Lake Harbor on Ocracoke Island, which is south of Hattaras Island, NC.  One of my very favorite places in the world … referenced often on this blog!

For those people who know Ocracoke you probably recognize this view … entry to the harbor is to my right.  There are always lots of pelicans on the pilings in this area because of the restaurants and the fish market on this part of the harbor.

I’m particularly amused by the fake owls that are affixed to some of the pilings.  The purpose of the owls is to keep the birds from landing on the pilings.  However, this is for naught … check out the large pelican that just landed on the piling in the center of picture … right below the “watchful eye” of the fake owl!
